Two members of the BIONS steering team heard David Korten give this presentation in Vancouver, BC recently and his vision is so compelling and catalyzing that we are wanting to see if there is interest for forming a BIONS book-study group around his book and DVD, in preparation for bringing him here for a larger community event, possibly in May.

“My intellectual passion is to apply my knowledge of how culture and institutional structures shape human behavior and to search for ways by which we humans can do a better job of supporting one another in achieving the higher order potentials of our nature.
Following September 11th,… the administration… began a campaign to build support for an invasion of Iraq and spoke openly of using the full power of the US military forces to impose imperial order on the world. These actions made overt a larger imperial agenda and triggered recognition of the extent to which contemporary relationships between people and nations are shaped by the same dominator patterns that became established with the rise of the first empires in the Tigris Euphrates and Nile river valleys some 5,000 years ago.
I decided I must write a book that would reveal the nature and implications of this connection. The result is The Great Turning: From Empire to Earth Community, which places the step we humans must now take to a new level of species maturity and a creative balance with one another and the Earth in the larger context of the overall sweep of the human experience.
